SPINIFEX WORKING KELPIE STUD

Spinifex Working Kelpie Stud was established in 1962. The Stud has been officially tested and approved by three selected Working Kelpie Council Members. The bloodlines were chosen from the best Working Kelpie lines available at the time and go back to the 1800's. The bloodlines in the Stud contain the best lines available in Australia. Various strains within the Stud excel in different types of work.

Spinifex Working kelpies were the first Kelpies to win medals at the 1970 Dog Olympics. Silver medal for the 100 metre hurdles, Silver medal for the high jump and bronze medal for the long jump.

SPINIFEX STARWhen the Working Kelpie Council of Australia was formed in the late 1960's, The Spinifex Stud was one of a select few to become a foundation Stud of the Council.

The aim of the Stud is to produce a Working Kelpie with natural ability that can handle all types of sheepwork eg. mustering, paddock work, yard work, shed work, loading trucks, Three-sheep Trials and Yard Dog Trials. Behind the agile smooth gleaming good looks is a Kelpie of tough proven working ability. The alert elegant sophisticated good looks can be stunning. Bred for perfection of colour and type.

Spinifex Kelpies have been exported to America, New zealand, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Asia, Germany, Japan and Norfolk Island. Besides working sheep, Spinifex Kelpies have excelled in Agility Trials and Obedience Trials in Australia and Japan. They have also been used in T.V. commercials.

Experience all round performance - paddock, yards, sheepdog trials, obedience trials and agility. Properly handled these Kelpies will handle any job. Spinifex Kelpies are bred for power, performance, quick response, stamina, intelligence, calmness, reliability, toughness and faithfulness.

Some of the more pleasing features Spinifex Kelpies have are - wide natural casting ability, style, eye, strong walk up strength, distance, nice breakout, speed, free movement, backing ability, easy to control and good temperament.

Puppies are sold from the age of six to eight weeks. Started dogs from the age of eight months onward.

Mrs. Caterson, started running sheepdog clinics with Mr. Leo Selwyn at Gulgong, NSW in 1980. She then with the help of Mrs. Perina Giles (Meson Kelpie Stud) helped to set up sheepdog training grounds for the NSW Canine Council at Erskine Park in 1989. Mrs. Caterson was chief instructor there for a number of years.

The Spinifex Working Kelpie Stud has recently moved to a new property near Manildra in the western area of NSW.
